Christmas Concert and Supper

December 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

FOR CHRISTMAS 2018

While the Brahms masterpiece will be sung for the Festival in March 2019, more immediately the society will be preparing for its Christmas concert and buffet party. Four years ago the Rogate society mixed traditional Christmas celebrations and music with memories of the first Christmas in the trenches in 1914, complete with readings from soldiers in the trenches observing the football matches taking place in No Man’s Land. This year the choir, under its Music Director Alan Drake, will dwell on the closing months of the war in November 1918, the Armistice and the bright prospects offered by the coming of peace.

The concert will include readings concerning the local Sussex soldiers who perished in the conflict and a second performance of a work specially written by Alan Drake, a setting of Frederick Niven’s poem A Carol from Flanders, which was first performed four years ago to great acclaim.
