Rogate Choral Society has been the focus for choral singing in the district since 1908. As well as performing major choral works at the annual Petersfield Musical Festival, we present a wide variety of music from all eras at our own concerts and entertainments.

The Choir draws singers from a broad area of West Sussex including Elsted, South Harting, Midhurst and east of Midhurst, Petworth, Nyewood and Milland, as well as from over the border in East Hampshire – Petersfield, and Liss, and of course from Rogate.

We have a dedicated professional music director and composer who has guided, educated and inspired the choir for many years.

Our year has three foundations: for decades we have been a participant in the Petersfield Musical Festival, but our efforts are not just a matter of rehearsing in the dark nights of autumn and winter to perform as spring beckons. In late December we also present a celebrated Christmas Concert and supper. And in the summer, close to midsummer’s night, sing madrigals and other summer songs from all sorts of musical origins.

Apart from our regular annual programme we look for other opportunities to sing and in the past two years we have sung for church Evensong services, at Portsmouth and at Arundel Cathedrals.

On these foundations we seek to expand the Choir’s repertoire, both for its own enjoyment, but also to sing at events to which we have been invited, including weddings, fairs and, if and when asked, National Trust properties. We are a Choir for hire.

New members are welcome without having to go through the ordeal of an audition. Some Choir members have life-long singing experience having honed their skills in cathedral choirs. Others just love singing and hope to improve their musical and vocal skills in a convivial and welcoming atmosphere. We are a mid-sized choir of 40-plus voices.
